HOW MUCH TO PAINT A BEDROOM?

Updated: Jan 1

Simple question, similar to how much is a piece of string. The reality is that no two bedrooms are the same so clearly the price will vary depending on the many variables.

HOW MUCH TO PAINT A BEDROOM WITH PAINTED WALLS?

For this option we are looking at a reasonably standard 3.5mt x 3.5mt bedroom with painted walls. Assuming the room is empty with no floor covering this is a simple job that should take no more than 2 days to paint at a cost of £450 Plus £100 for material. Total £550. If the room is a bit smaller or a bit bigger the price won’t vary by much.

HOW MUCH TO PAINT A BEDROOM WITH BUILT IN WARDROBES?

So for this option we are looking at the same bedroom as above but this one has built in painted wardrobes. Clearly painting wardrobes is going to take longer so the cost will be more like £550 Plus £100 for material. Total £650.

HOW MUCH TO PAINT A BEDROOM WITH WALLPAPER ON THE WALLS?

Rooms that have wallpaper on the walls will always cost more to redecorate as the wallpaper has to be stripped before any painting starts. In some cases, if you are putting back high quality wallpaper it may be necessary to line the walls with lining paper prior to wallpapering. The same room as above should set you back about £650 to paint and wallpaper with a material cost for paint and wallpaper of about £250. Total £900.

So how much should it cost to paint a bedroom? By now you should be getting the message that depending on the size of the bedroom, what you have on the walls and whether you have built in wardrobes or not will help to determine the final cost of painting a bedroom.

OTHER VARIABLES THAT WILL IMPACT THE COST OF PAINTING A BEDROOM

1: Is the bedroom empty? No furniture means that the painters can work much quicker so in theory the job will cost less.

2: What kind of floor coverings? Having to work with carpets or new floors means work will be slower and the painters will have to ensure that everything is covered.

3: Do you need the walls or ceiling skimmed before painting? If the walls are in poor condition, then it might we worth the extra cash to have the walls skimmed before the painters arrive.

4: Changing from wallpaper to paint or vice versa. Wallpapering will always take a bit longer as you can’t wallpaper a room whilst the paint is wet, and wallpapering is slower than painting. Feature walls however might be a good idea and won’t cost a fortune.

5: When it comes to getting the costs down it always makes more sense to have a few rooms painted at any one time. This will give you a bit more bargaining power with the painters.
