PREPERATION IS THE KEY TO A QUALITY PAINT JOB

The window sills and bottom bars of the sash windows are usually the areas that need the most attention. Once flaking or peeling there is simply no point in scraping and filling like loads of painters do to speed the job up. For a thorough job you really do need to get the blowtorch out and burn off the flaking paintwork. That way you are assured that when the new paint goes on it will stay on. For best results we use a thin coat of aluminium primer on the sills followed by a thicker coat when it has dried. This creates a perfect base for filling, sanding and making nice smooth surfaces ready for undercoating and top coats.

MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT MATERIALS FOR THE JOB

I've lost count of the number of times I have gone on jobs to find painters using interior filler on the outside of the windows. I've also seen emulsion getting used on exterior stonework rather than the correct masonry paint. It's mostly ignorance rather than an attempt to cheat the client but neverthless it can't possibly be a good job if the wrong materials are used on the exterior of the property.

WILL I NEED SCAFFOLDING TO PAINT MY HOUSE?
Almost all 2 storey properities are painted from ladders and in some cases we will be able to paint a 3 storey property from ladders. It very much depends on the style of the property and what work needs to be done.

On larger properties AVONPRESS will be happy to arrange scaffolding and if any of the scaffold needs to sit on a public highway we can also obtain the license from TFL or the local council. We also ensure that the scaffolding is alarmed to prevent unwanted visitors. For a peace of mind I can tell you that our scaffolding partners are insured for £10million or more.
